Bandwidth clearance and related information

One of the most prominent question we get almost everyday here at BOXSTr is “How to reset my bandwidth?” and I will answer what our users need to be acquainted with about bandwidth at BOXSTr at all.
Free users are allocated 1GB of bandwidth daily (which is about 30GB per month) and for an average user who has files summing up to 100MB will find this sufficient for a daily basis. But how actually is bandwidth calculated here at BOXSTr? Now, assume that you have an MP3 file with a size of 3MB and you are streaming it on a famous community website where you get 100 hits for the testing day. Whenever the page is loaded, the streaming begins and the file is downloaded to cache. When this happens at all, BOXSTr will assume the file was completely accessed and deducts 3MB of bandwidth from your total usage. Unfair it is? No its not. Apparently, whether or not the files are loaded completely, BOXSTr will prepare the file for accessibility completely, so on BOXSTr’s server side, the file was actually loaded completely but it was the client side which didn’t load the files. Hence, 3MB is deducted from your account.
Bandwidth will usually reset the next day according to the server clock (GMT -8) but if you have not used it all up, it will roll-over to the next day and you will have the option to reset it manually. If the server is doing the job, then why do we need to manually reset it? Sometimes, for some reason, you might want to use the maximum bandwidth for the day (perhaps you’re having a presentation and the last thing you want to know is you ran out of bandwidth) so we have added this convenience for you. Otherwise, in very rare cases, bandwidth does not reset and totally halts at 100% usage even though you have just one file which is 1MB and in a private folder. This is when the tool comes handy.
If you are eligible for a bandwidth reset, it will appear in your dashboard just like in the image I posted above. Otherwise, you are not eligible yet. We are adding more functions to utilize this feature and will ease our users in the future. We know you miss the BOXSTr 1.0 bandwidth stats widget, but we’ll add it back in the v2.0 with more features.
Hope this clears up the bandwidth issues. Should you have any other concerns over bandwidth, you can leave a comment here or start a ticket. You know our support ROCKS ;)

How to Drag and Drop Files from your Desktop
To Drag and drop files:
Simply log into the desktop application and select upload. Make sure to select the correct folder you wish to upload to first.
Now, take your files from your desktop and drag them into the Desktop App. The files will then show up in each text area. Hit Upload in the top right (you might need to scroll up to see the upload button if you have dragged multiple files.) The upload will now begin. Alternatively, you can also open up folders and drag the files off there into the desktop app. For an example see the above video.

Weekend Move - Expected Outage
The move is expected to begin tomorrow evening around 8PM Eastern Standard time and possibly last through Sunday (5/19/08) at 8PM eastern time. During this time there will likely be some downtime. During the actual move no files will be uploader or downloaded. This will be the time when complete move updates are posted on the forums.
On a side note: BOXSTr will be gaining three additional servers this weekend to keep up with our fantastic growth and to make sure BOXSTr is the best online data management site in the universe.

(FIXED!) Uploading Issues with Internet Explorer
Operation Aborted."
The issue occurs about 60% of the time when trying to load the page. No other browsers are effected at this time.
This issue is being caused by a fault between BOXSTr's javascript and the way Internet Explorer handles it. We're working on a fix for this, but in the meantime, a temporary work around is to download a browser that is actually standards compliant such as Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Opera.
Again, we are working on a fix for this and hope to have it working properly within 48 hours. You can also avoid the issue by using the BOXSTr Desktop App.
We're still working out bugs, so if you should happen to find any, please report them to support@boxstr.com
Great News IE Users! This issue has been fixed! Happy Uploading!
On a lighter note... our legal team is file suit against the World War Two British Royal Air Force for their blatent copy of BOXSTr's logo. I mean, look... if Apple can file suet against New York City, well BOXSTr can surely take on the British RAF from 65 years ago. We'll see you in court Winston Churchill.

BOXSTr Turns 2.0
Tonight at about midnight eastern time we roll out Release Canidate 1.01 of Version 1.0 of BOXSTr 2.0. :-DAlright, enough with that. What we really did is redesign the user experience at BOXSTr as well as upgrade many of our current features. Sure the basics are still there, but we plan on adding new features each month and this officially kicks off our plan to redesign the way the world stores their data. You might notice some bugs initially, but we hope to have them all worked out.
A side note: the member profile page is already in for an upgrade (yes, that's right... upgraded before we released it). That feature is set to be out tomorrow evening at midnight EST.
Stay tuned. A lot is changing and it all starts today. If you're ready, then you belong here at BOXSTr.
More details will follow. Love your files!
